Histoire Aubercy

As the last independent house in Paris, Aubercy was recognized as an « Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant ». This is a mark of recognition of the French State, put in place to reward French firms for the excellence of their traditional and industrial know-how. To us, it was an invitation to pursue our craft in the most exacting standards.

A letter from Xavier Aubercy I love shoes because they play a very particular role in masculinity.

Xavier Aubercy
A shoe touches seduction intensely and unconsciously but more importantly it helps reveal the man who wears them. Shoes expresses his taste, passion, mind and character.
Our history is first and foremost humane, a love story that I share with immensely talented artisans.
In an ever changing world, our family has always wanted to keep the house independant in order to preserve our vision of beauty.
Aubercy is unique and incomparable. You must take one of our shoes in your hand to really understand, grasp, and feel this alchemy.  Shoes in its purest form with a touch of flair.
We make a little under 1000 shoes per year, a testimony of our devotion to quality and respect.
Each one of our shoes embodies our passion and our vision of true “a la carte” luxury where everyone can accomplish their desires. A unique creation should always tell a great story, the one you wish. An exceptional object can only become truly noble, in my opinion, when it brings people together.

I wanted my house like a place of harmony where talented artisans meet to create beautiful shoes. Like an orchestrator, I work alongside the shoemaker, the shaper and the bootmaker, allowing them to fully exploit their craft like true artists expressing their know-how.
Every day, I have the joy to live my passion with my family. We creating the most beautiful shoes possible while ensuring that in each Aubercy shoe, “what is not seen must be even more beautiful.” We do it for our fantastic customers who are careful about their choices, for the love of sharing a passion, the art of living well and a customized elegance both refined and timeless.”

The genesis of a pair of shoes is a very complex process. Our procedures haven’t changed at all for more than 50 years. Our shoes are made with the strict respect of our craft tradition.

We begin by selecting the most beautiful young calf skins so the grain will maintain all of its beauty even with extensive wear. Our leathers are selected by Philippe Aubercy who looks for animals whose skins are free of any imperfection, and then are prepared in French tanneries.

We cut out the uppers by hand from the heart of the skin.

On some models, the finish on the edges is done with the last pin.

The uppers are then assembled with double stitching – which has to have the thickness of just one – in order to guarantee that they are totally solid and to preserve their aesthetic appeal.

Then into this upper are inserted hard toes and leather counters that are also polished and smoothed by hand.

Our Goodyear is always handmade

Aubercy shoes display handmade Goodyear, from Bespoke to Ready-to-wear.

Good-Year à la main
In its ready-to-wear collection, and for shoe lovers, Aubercy offers Goodyear process with a welt that is still hand-sewn today.
This is quite unique in the universe of shoemaking in Paris.
The term Goodyear is often obscured by methods that have become more and more industrialized. At Aubercy, we think of Goodyear as an object of craft in its purest form.
We believe that our shoes must be made in this fashion.
It is the hand of the artisan that provides its soul as well as the pleasure of possessing a unique object.
When Goodyear is hand-sewn, it adds tremendously to the feel and comfort of the shoe.

Our welts are hand-sewn in the innersole.

You won’t find any base forms made from glued canvas in our shoes.

Instead, we have welts that are hand-sewn in the thickness of the innersole.

We use a natural material that is both thick and flexible and more importantly, we use a material of great quality.

As a result of the density, each of our customers will mold the shoe to his foot over time.

This refined method of providing and creating comfort is evidence that hand-sewn products are of incomparable quality.

It’s above all about unmatched estheticism.

There is a finesse as well as an aesthetic that cannot be imitated. Our highly talented craftsmen truly make all the difference. Their 30 years of experience in this craft provides them with exceptional dexterity. It transpires, for instance, with the welt wheel mark on our unequal finish quality. Three hours of work are required to sew one of our pairs, as opposed to the three minutes it takes when this task is automated.

Why persevere in our traditional method at a time when all fabrication is being automated?

Because we believe that each of our creations bears our name and requires our commitment to quality. Being an independent, family owned house also provides us with the great privilege to prioritize creation and beauty for our customers. It is because of this comfort, this style and craft that Aubercy does not have just customers, but true lovers of footwear.

The Lupin Club

Beauty has been the sole foundation of Aubercy shoes — for three generations.

We thought it essential to share this spirit in an elegant fashion and that is how the Club Lupin came into existence.
When you love beautiful things, you want to share them, through conversation, through testing and tasting.
.

We started out with boot-making but, as a group of people loving the authenticity of crafts and intent on discerning what the good things are, we are extending our interest to wines, food, timepieces and whatnot.

Beautiful things ought to lead to beautiful encounters. This congenial dimension needed a time and a place to blossom. Our hedonistic desires had to find a way to flourish, by making those crafts something to share.

Rue Vivienne, or even in some secret and unexpected places in Paris, we will taste some pretty impressive things and meet distinguished tailors, wine-makers, cooks, all of them staunch believers in defending their crafts.
And above all, we will enjoy that together.
